Delhi PWD
The Delhi PWD is a unique arm of
CPWD. Till the grant of Statehood to Delhi the works for Delhi administration were carried out
by two zones of CPWD. DAZ-1 & DAZ-II, as they were called were later renamed
as PWD Zone-1 and PWD Zone-II after the UT of Delhi was granted Statehood.
Subsequently two more zones were created to look after the growing workload of
the PWD. Thus in all 4 Zones execute all works for the Delhi Government under
the overall charge of an E-in-C. The Delhi PWD works independently under the
administrative control of the Delhi Government except for specific functions.
All recruitment, promotions, transfers too and from the PWD to CPWD, quality
assurance functions, vigilance functions are carried out by CPWD wings.
Because of limited geographical
area of operation, a unified system of administrative and technical control the
PWD Zones are able to handle a much larger workload than other zones of the
department. Over the years the PWD, Delhi has created an image of
go-getters for themselves. The numerous flyovers, bridges, hospitals, schools
built by the officers posted in Delhi PWD have made life easier for the
citizens of Delhi.
