CPWD is basically working on the ornamental horticulture developing and maintaining the landscape gardens attached to the buildings of GPRA and GPOA. This is the only department in Govt. of India which is working and executing the landscape works and no other Govt. departments are having such type of infrastructure and staff. This is basically the work of greening and decorating the buildings and create habitable environment with pleasant and attractive activities. The horticulture word also relates to the crops and plants which are dealt in the Ministry of Agriculture. Some other bodies like NDMC, DDA, MCD, GDA and HUDA have also created such type of establishments which is parallel to the CPWD. CPWD is working as bench mark institution for the other horticulture department which are working at par with the CPWD. The guidelines and Manual prepared by CPWD are being followed by all these departments and by the other agencies who are executing such types of works.

In Delhi, CPWD is developing and maintaining all type of residential qtrs. and other complexes including residences of Hon`ble Ministers, Judges, Member of Parliament, Prime Minister House, other Govt. officers including Bureaucrats and Defence officers etc. Similarly the gardens of all the Ministries and other Govt. departments are maintained by CPWD horticulture wing. For maintenance of these gardens Malies are deployed as per yardstick available in the department for attending the garden works i.e. watering of plants, hoeing of plants, lawn mowing, sowing of seeds, digging, manuring, pest control, weed control, display of pots, coloring of pots, fertilization, pruning of plants, removal of waste, pruning of trees, shaping of hedges, sweeping of leaves from the lawns, plantation, digging up the beds, spreading of manure, operations of machines, cartage of pots, removal of pots, maintaining of flower beds, plantation of seasonal flowers, composting/recycling of green waste generated from these horticultures operations.

In VVIP offices/residences floral arrangement is being provided as per entitlement and this is also done as deposit work in various other offices. Development and maintenance of kitchen garden including providing of vegetable seeds is also done as per entitlement in VVIP bungalows.

CPWD is also maintaining large number of parks and all the smadhies in Delhi. The important parks are :

4. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Park.

5. Sadbhawana Park.

6. J.P. Park.

7. Kaka Hathrasi Park.

8. Ahuja Park.

10. Arvindo Park.

Other colony parks located in Govt. Colonies in the MCD areas are also falls in the jurisdiction of CPWD. The prestigious Rajpath and Vijay Chowk lawns are also being maintained by CPWD.
